Gratitude Challenge – Day 6

November 6, 2012

Today, it’s the ‘Like’ button. Think about it – there are few things better than being able to wander the Internet offering a thumbs-up for just about anything. I love the concept of a visual proclamation of approval. How did we survive before we were able to both give and receive virtual acceptance on the most random and (often) mundane of fleeting thoughts or discoveries? It’s like the gold star we’ve had to do without since kindergarten. Though, unlike those coveted gold stars, we don’t yet have the ability to hang those ‘Likes’ on the fridge. Google really should get on that if they want any hope of taking back the Internet.

Gratitude Challenge – Day 5

BACON! Oh yeah – I said it. And if you dispute bacon’s magnificence, I’m not sure I can take anything you say seriously ever again.

Gratitude – Day 4

November 5, 2012

This one may actually qualify as cheesy. I’m sorry. You’ve been warned.

Unsurprisingly to me, my employer has spent the weekend pulling together an enormous effort to procure, transport, and distribute necessities to victims of hurricane Sandy. After a day full of shopping, I have a car full of supplies to deliver to the office in the morning and be delivered to those in need before the end of the day. Today, I’m grateful for well-stocked stores that offer more than enough to help those in need and everything my family needs, and for stores willing to offer discounts and help to those helping victims. Thank you to Wegmans and Bed, Bath, & Beyond!

Gratitude Challenge – Day 3

November 3, 2012

Today I’m grateful for old things. Don’t look so shocked – I’m not talking about old people. Those still hold a “special” place I’m my, ummm, heart . . .? No, I’m talking about the afternoon I spent antiquing with one of my oldest of friends (because I’ve known her a long time – not because she’s old). We ooooh-ed and aaaahh-ed and laughed and talked and imagined all the crafty things we could do with old things. I fed my odd obsession with old bottles (they were on sale – how could I not??) and I embraced the upcoming holiday season with glittery fake flowers and a gold sparkly squirrel Christmas ornament for The Kid (I wisely bypassed the one that looked as if it might have been an actual living, breathing squirrel at one point in time). These are only a few of the old things for which I’m grateful.

Gratitude Challenge – Day 2

November 3, 2012

Two words – butt warmers. Heated seats. Ass toasters. Take your pick.

In the interest of full disclosure, it’s completely possible I used this one last year. It’s also possible I might feel the overwhelming desire to use it again. They’re just THAT amazing and I’m THAT thankful for them. The weather is turning cold and mornings are increasingly less than cozy. Few things help compensate for the typical morning chaos than this one, simple, first-world luxury.

Here’s wishing you all cozy, toasty derrières to accompany your extra hour of sleep this weekend!
