Sing Along

I have a song for everything — Ask just about anyone who has spent any length of time around me. I always have a song running through my head, a readily available ditty to dance to (whether anyone else can hear it or not), or a contextually relevant song for whatever the situation. (Thanks to my mother, I also tend to have a silly song for any occasion as well, but that’s another story.)

While putting The Kid’s hair into a ponytail the other day,  she winced, grunted, and said “oooo-eeeee-oooo.”  It was no surprise to either me or my sister that my immediate reaction was to break into bouts of “Oo-E-Oo-Ah-Ah-Ting-Tang-Walla-Walla-Bing-Bang. Oo-E-Oo-Ah-Ah-Ting-Tang-Walla-Walla-Bing-Bang.”

The Kid looks at me like I’m insane and asks “What was that?!” To which I respond, “It’s a song.”

She obviously doesn’t believe me and is ready to argue so my sister (19) backs me up by explaining that it is indeed a song, an OLD song, and it’s been around even since Grandma was a kid.

I agreed and finished with “You know, it’s from back before they had words.”

“OOOoohhhh” responds The Kid as she walked away, now convinced of the song’s legitimacy.
